FAQ
Does FowlVoice require internet?
Core dictation works offline on your Mac using local Parakeet TDT models. Optional cloud features require internet, and licensed copies should reconnect occasionally for validation. FowlVoice includes a generous 20-day offline grace period.
Does my audio leave my Mac?
Never. Audio is processed entirely on-device and is never sent anywhere. When you use AI features, only the transcribed text is sent to your chosen provider — never the audio.
Do I need an account?
No. Core dictation works immediately with no account, email, or sign-up. AI features optionally use your ChatGPT subscription login or an OpenRouter API key.
Is this better than Apple Dictation?
FowlVoice adds auto-learning vocabulary, per-app settings, text replacements, dictation history, a compact transparent orb UI, and optional AI features. Both run on-device.
